Over the past few weeks we have become familiar with the functions each role plays within the Project Design Team – the BIM modelers, the BIM coordinators, directors of Design Management and Execution Management and he BIM Technical Director or BIM Manager.
If we continue our ascent within the hierarchical scheme of the BIM methodology, the time has come to meet the Project Management Team. The person responsible for this human team is the BIM Project Director either BIM Project Manager.
This is the person (or people if the project has a certain entity) who has been appointed by the client to lead the BIM team and manage the project, so that the objectives are achieved and the client's expectations are met.
Functions and responsibilities:
· Will be in charge of developing the BIM protocols according to the EIRs (Client Information Requirements).
· Defines the Client's BIM objectives and uses.
· Develop the project plan (not the BEP which is a subsidiary plan and will be developed by the BIM Manager).
· You must define the scope of the project.
· You must prepare the project constitution document.
· Is in charge of selecting personnel for the teams and leading the project.
· Identify and evaluate the agents involved in the project.
· Among its functions is generating the project management plan, including: scope, budget and schedule.
· Is in charge of risk management and control.
· Manage changes to the project and its quality.
· Must maintain the project on cost and deadline.
· Monitors the project and informs the client of its progress and status.
This is a position with greater responsibility within the BIM project.
It is common that in small or medium-sized projects, the person who assumes this role plays some other role of less responsibility within the hierarchy.
