We continue with the presentation of the BIM roles. If last week we saw the importance of BIM modelers inside of the work scheme usually hierarchical that this methodology presents; This week we will focus on the role played by BIM Coordinators either BIM Coordinator.
He BIM Coordinator is the agent responsible for organize and coordinate work within the same discipline, with the aim of meeting both the requirements set by the BIM Technical Director (whose figure we will see in the coming weeks), as well as the requirements of the BEP (BIM Executon Plan).
It is important to know that there will be so many coordinators BIM as specialties include the project (design, structure, MEP – facilities, Health and Safety, quality…).
As was the case with the modelers, this figure is also part of the Designer Team – in the corresponding discipline of the project – and its functions have an operational nature. All coordinators must be on the same page to ensure perfect functioning of the design teams.
What is its function?
Their functions and responsibilities are:
· Coordinate work within the discipline correspondent.
· Carry out the necessary checking processes to ensure the quality of the BIM model.
· Ensure the compatibility of the BIM model with the rest of the disciplines.
As always, we are talking about a general definition: the work scheme and the roles presented by the methodology must be adapted to issues such as the project itself, its phases and the size of the work team.
