BIM modeler: what are its functions?

Last week we left you a article in the blog where we talk about some general questions about the BIM roles and we saw a possible organizational chart of BIM roles and work teams.

Although the work scheme, hierarchies and roles must be adapted depending on the project, its phases and the size of the work team, we are going to present the possible work roles, showing their functions and responsibilities within The methodology.

If you want to learn more and improve professionally in a booming sector, train with us at Master in BIM and learn from the best experts.

What are the functions of the BIM Modeler?

Today we will start with the base, the BIM modeler, also know as BIM Modeler  either BIM Operator.; who belongs to the design team – in the corresponding discipline of the project – and whose functions have an operational nature. This will be the person (or people) in charge of modeling according to the criteria established in the BEP (BIM Execution Plan).

The functions and responsibilities of the BIM Modeler are:

-It must be a person specialized in construction, since the idea is model how it is built.

-You will be the one who provides fundamental information for all disciplines involved using BIM software tools.

-Coordinates and reviews your work with architects, engineers, advisors, contractors and suppliers. The implication point will depend on the team organization chart proposed for the work methodology.

-You must continue in your job design protocols.

-Creates 3D visualizations, adds construction elements to the library and make links object data.

-Must be able to export from the model (2D, extract information from plans, send to servers or CDE)

-Must possess techniques and skills for organize and combine the information.

-Keep your focus on quality and carry out their tasks in a manner structured and disciplined.

-Knowledge of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and specifically the open standards and object libraries.

As you can see, the BIM Modeler will be the first role necessary to start creating and managing information within the methodology.
