According to the magazine BleepingComputer, a Garmin employee has confirmed that the cause of the interruption of their services was an attack with the WastedLocker ransomware from Evil Corp, a group of cybercriminals based in Russia.
There is talk about the ransom of the data for 10 million dollars, although there is also speculation that points to a greater amount of money. The company has not officially commented on the matter.
The question that arises now is whether the company will give in to blackmail.
History has made it clear to us that it is not advisable to pay, so we have impressive examples like WannaCry or Cryptolocker.
On more than one occasion, companies have paid cybercriminals to ransom their files and they have done nothing to return the data while letting the ransomware continue to function.
