Companies will increase the cybersecurity budget by 20% in 2021

2020 It will be a year that we will all remember and that will go down in the annals of history for many things, especially the pandemic, but we must remember that it has been the year in which companies have suffered the most cyberattacks.

The upload of applications and data to the cloud, teleworking, confinement, everything has had an influence and has caused cybercriminals to think that their time has come.

According to Devo, a cloud-native data analytics and security company, the cybersecurity budget of companies could increase up to 20% for this new 2021 motivated by “3 trends”, this has been communicated Jason Mical, cybersecurity evangelist at Devo.

  • The internet of things (IoT)

We increasingly have more and more devices and gadgets that connect to the internet, as I already mentioned in this post, even toothbrushes. Due to the pandemic, the growth of these devices has increased disproportionately, we spend more time at home and “everything” has to be connected. If we add to this, as we have already said, the incorporation of teleworking, it increases the probability of attacks.

  • Increase security in Teleworking

Mical indicated that another trend is the geographical dispersion of staff. It indicates that as has already happened in 2020, companies will be forced to migrate their data to the cloud during 2021. Jason estimates that there will be an increase of 29% of professionals who will use native functions in the cloud, so threats will logically increase as well.

Given this increase, companies will have to add new laptops and smartphones with corporate security controls and two-factor authentication to their assets and also divert part of their budget to cloud-native security tools. Let us remember that security budgets increased by 2019 and 2020 almost in a 20% and this year 2021 the increase is expected to be greater.

  • Cybersecurity information exchange

In this past 2020 there were two attacks that captured the attention of the cybersecurity world, they were those of FireEye and SolarWinds.

These companies were joined by several others that recognized that they had security vulnerabilities and indicated the need to share information about current and future threats in order to combat them.

This 2021 The number of threats will increase and we hope for community awareness to protect ourselves together with something as simple as information.
