Youth Employment 2024
On the twentieth anniversary of the report “Global Youth Employment Trends” of the ILO, highlights both the progress and the persistent challenges faced by young people in their search for decent employment.
This analysis, spanning two decades, offers a comprehensive view of how the youth labor market has evolved and what the future holds.
- Post-COVID-19 Recovery:
- Positive Aspects: The global youth unemployment rate in 2023 fell to 131% in 2023, its lowest level in 15 years, particularly benefiting young people who entered the labor market after the pandemic.
- Persistent Inequalities: However, the recovery has not been uniform. In regions such as the Arab States and parts of Asia, youth unemployment rates remain above pre-crisis levels.
- Gender Inequality:
- Double Disadvantage for Young Women: Although unemployment rates among young men and women have converged, women have experienced a greater negative impact during the pandemic and a slower recovery.
- Challenges for the “NiNi”:
- Disconnected Youth: In 2023, 20.41% of young people were not working, studying, or receiving training, a worrying statistic that reflects labor and educational exclusion, especially among women.
- Future Perspectives:
- Concerns and Hopes: Although a gradual decline in the global youth unemployment rate is expected, economic and social uncertainty is causing anxiety among young people about their future employment prospects.
In a world filled with uncertainty, supporting young people is crucial. Providing them with the tools they need to transition to decent employment will not only boost their hopes but will also be key to global progress.
The global youth unemployment rate is expected to continue to decline over the next two years to 12.8 percent in 2024 and 2025. EIP We continue to contribute to training the leaders of the future by providing them with quality employment in an increasingly competitive world.
