Last Friday, the Energy Ministers and senior authorities of the sector of the G20 countries encouraged an increase in public and private investment in energy efficiency to promote the transition towards cleaner systems and thus address global challenges such as security and climate change.
"Energy transitions pose not only a global challenge, but also an opportunity," remarked the German Director General of Energy Policy, Thorsten Herdan, in a press conference at the end of the plenary sessions held this Friday in the southern Argentine city of San Carlos de Bariloche.
Along with the representative of Germany - the country that chaired the G20 in 2017 -, his 'troika' colleagues appeared: Juan José Aranguren, Minister of Energy of Argentina - who heads the group this year - and Yoji Muto, head of Economy, Trade and Industry from Japan, which will take over in 2019.
The meeting, the third on the energy sector in the history of the G20, focused on the process to achieve more flexible, transparent and clean energy systems; premise under which the participants - ministers and representatives of various international organizations - addressed how to strengthen efficiency in the sector.
