BIM: Parts of the UNE-EN ISO 19650 Standard

In current construction practice, increasing attention is paid to Project Management and Direction; For this reason, large organizations are adopting tools that facilitate this management.

The BIM methodology is one of these tools, BIM can be a decisive advantage on the path to efficient management. At the same time, BIM is an Information Management resource, and as such, it can be used to illustrate the complete process of construction, maintenance and even demolition, making the information available to all agents involved in the construction process.

Parts of the UNE-EN ISO 19650 Standard

The work and delivery procedure of a project is based on the UNE-EN ISO 19650 standard Organization and digitalization of information in building and civil engineering works that use BIM (Building Information Modeling). The standard comes from EN ISO 19650, which has five parts, three of which are already They have their Spanish transposition. In turn, EN ISO 19650 is based on the following standards, Standard BS 1192:2007 together with its appendix A2:2016 and the Public Specification PAS 1192-2.

Part 1: Concepts and Principles (ISO 19650-1:2018)

Its objective is to know how we manage information. The document establishes the concepts and principles recommended for business processes in the construction sector, being a support of information management and production during the life cycle of built assets when BIM is used. Provides recommendations for a framework for information management, including exchange, capture, version management and organization for all project stakeholders.

Part 2: Asset Delivery Phase (ISO 19650-2:2018)

It is the document designed to allow a contracting party to establish its information requirements during the asset development phase. Among the topics covered in the document are: needs assessment, invitation to bid, response to proposal, assignment of the work, mobilization, collaborative production of Information, and project closure.

Part 3: Asset Operational Phase (ISO 19650-3)

Part 3 of the Standard is still being drafted. It will establish requirements for information management through building information modeling (BIM) during the operational phase of an asset's life.

Parts of the UNE-EN ISO 19650 standard

Part 4: Information Exchange (ISO 19650-4)

Part 4 of the Standard is still being drafted. It will establish guidelines for the exchange of information (open formats).

Part 5: Specification for Security of Building Information Modeling (ISO 19650-5)

This is part of the recently published standard that establishes information security requirements.

We understand by building work within this standard (as in the BIM work methodology) the entire life cycle of the construction, including the useful life and exploitation of the asset. All these phases have a place in the ISO: in its procedures, concepts, principles and development bases.
