The NEXT Funds or European Recovery Plan, owe their origin to the global economic crisis as a result of the pandemic situation caused by the coronavirus, an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
These funds are defined as an aid package with the objective of implementing economic actions that counteract the effects of the outbreak of said disease (COVID-19) in Europe and promote a recovery marked by sustainability and digitalization, foreseeing in the period 2021 -2027 provide member countries with the necessary mechanisms for this purpose through direct loans and subsidies.
This represents an unprecedented economic injection, contemplating 4,420 million euros to finance aid programs in residential rehabilitation and social housing, regulated in Royal Decree 853/2021 in Spain, which the autonomous communities must now incorporate into their own regulations, and which requires the maximum involvement of all economic and social agents, among which are the competent technicians in building matters.
Currently, the existing building stock consumes 30% of the country's final energy, largely due to the fact that the 60% of Spanish homes date back to before 1980, and therefore have poor insulation, which leads to greater energy consumption. Energy rehabilitation is, therefore, one of the basic pillars to achieve, on the one hand, the European objectives for reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and on the other, promoting a reduction in energy expenditure and enhancing the well-being in homes, all incentivized with these important financial aid.
Thus, a unique window of opportunity opens for building professionals. to put into practice and at the service of citizens their knowledge in construction, energy efficiency and installations, not only to improve people's well-being, but also to streamline the administrative procedures necessary to obtain the aid that is available with their technical knowledge.
