For several weeks we have become familiar with the functions performed by each role inside of the hierarchical scheme of the BIM methodology.
Although, along with the team that develops the project, we can find a series activities derived from the BIM methodology that offer more specific roles or jobs or focused on other areas, as shown below:
BIM Analyst – BIM Analyst
Performs analysis and simulations based on the BIM model: analyzes the operation and performance of the building, simulates building circulations, performs safety analyzes and
analysis of energy behavior. It may be specialized in one or several tasks. You can be part of the team regularly or occasionally.
BIM application programming – BIM Application Developer
Develops and customizes software to support the integration of BIM processes. Program plugins or small tools that speed up repetitive tasks.
IFC Specialist – IFC Specialist
Professional who contributes, together with experts in different areas of the AEC/FM industry (architecture/engineering/construction/Facility Management), to the IFC format and the definition
initial requirements for IFC extensions.
They must be familiar with data structure and modeling concepts. It is responsible for mapping Exchange Requirements.
To make this possible, work with the BIM Coordinator and attend to the requirements of the BIM Technical Director.
BIM Facilitator – BIM Facilitator
Helps other professionals in visualizing model information.
It helps the engineer's work to communicate with contractors.
It helps FMs to extract information from BIM models for different purposes: asset management, space planning, maintenance, planning…etc.
BIM Consultant – BIM Consultant/ BIM Expert
It offers project guides for designers, developers and builders for BIM implementation in large and medium-sized companies that have adopted this methodology and do not have
experience as BIM experts.
They can also carry out external audits of projects.
We find three types:
· Strategic consultant - Strategic Consultant
· Functional Consultant – Functional Consultant
· Operational Consultant – Operational Consultant
BIM Researcher – BIM Researcher
Expert who teaches, coordinates and develops research on BIM.
As you can see, the possibilities within the BIM world are wide and varied.
