Power Skills to power

Surely we have all heard about the Soft Skills and the Hard Skills, from the competencies”Soft or Soft”, relating to our “way of doing things” which “characterizes us as people” and defines our way of relating to others., and the powers “Hard or Hard”, relating to the knowledge that we have acquired through our studies and/or experience., which in some ways are more contrastable. For example, if we talk about how much experience do you have or level of education?, or have you been certified or specialized in a subject?

In a way they are easily “identifiable” and we understand if a candidate meets our requirements in Hard Skills.

But what about Soft Skills?

They are more difficult to contrast with the naked eye, but nevertheless have been acquiring prominence and power in many companies.

Why are there many companies that already pay more attention to Power Skills What about Hard Skills? It is what makes the person different and may make you stand out compared to another candidate with the same level of education or experience.

Power Skills Soft Skills Hard Skills

Companies have been realizing the importance of these skills and not only are they betting on them, but they want their employees to acquire them, which is why part of their training budgets is now allocated to these contents: “How to speak in public” “How to work as a team” “Develop listening and empathy skills” etc.

The relevance that the Soft Skills in companies, have taken another turn, providing them with decisive and important competencies within companies. We call them “Power Skills.””, they are no longer “soft” skills, but “powerful” competencies” such as “teamwork”. For most companies, this competence is vital; having this skill developed by their employees can make the difference between one company and another. How do you ensure that your employees enhance these skills? What tools facilitate these skills to be obtained? This is no longer a fad, it is a reality!

Why do companies value Power Skills so much and why do they become so relevant in interviews?

The companies They look for a “plus” in their candidates, they sometimes even value the knowledge that stands out in these skills above, because that can make us more empathetic teams, with a better work environment, more communicative, improves teamwork and ultimately more empowered.

What are the most notable Power Skills?

If we look on the Internet we can have several reference sites, but almost all of them mention the most notable ones:

  • Teamwork:

In most jobs, sooner or later we have to interact or work with colleagues, it is important to know how to work in harmony and integrate with the team, to develop a good work environment, happy companies are more productive than unhappy ones or broken teams.

  • Effective communication:

Communication is one of the pillars we have to know how to transmit and be understood clearly and efficiently by others, how many times are misunderstandings generated by the mere fact of not communicating well. In addition to raising that ability to speak in public and being able to generate that engagement and effective communication with our interlocutors, selling our ideas, communicating them well gives us respect and makes us trustworthy.

  • Empathy:

Knowing how to put ourselves in the shoes of others makes us understand more quickly that if we do not do it, if we are not capable, deep down we are strangers, but if we know how to put ourselves in the shoes of our “clients”, our “colleagues”, this will elevate us. the point of understanding of what they need, want or even what they feel

  • Emotional Intelligence:

The ability we can have to understand and manage our emotions, focus on the aspects that most empower us and make us see the most positive side.

  • Conflict resolution:

Ability to handle oneself without fear and with determination in complicated situations, providing solutions and generating trust and maintaining a healthy climate, because in companies many times the management of complicated situations usually occurs and they are part of becoming due to pressure, deliveries, objectives , etc., hence the ability to adapt and get away with them

  • Resilience:

Ability to overcome difficult situations or moments and emerge stronger from them. It is important to know that companies have all their difficult moments, which is why it requires people who not only know how to get out of them, but who transform them into learning.

  • Active listening:

Having the ability to listen fully to our interlocutors, to demonstrate that we want to understand their needs and empathize with them.

There are many more Power Skills, but here are some of them, so that we can reflect on the importance that companies are giving to them with names and surnames.

If we learn to identify them, improve them and integrate them into our behaviors we will surely be Power candidates!
