New extension of the ERTE?

After spending almost a year and a few months of Covid 19 pandemicEven with tourism at a very sustained pace, the recovery of economic activity is occurring gradually and slowly. 

Currently, there are more than 630,000 workers who are included in the ERTE, a protection measure that has made it possible to block job losses in Spanish companies.

ERTE modalities

The sectors with the highest percentage of workers in ERTE are the travel agencies, followed by accommodation services, air transportation and gambling activities. The current ERTE modalities are:

  • The ERTE for impediment of activity and ERTE for limitation, intended for companies that see their activity restricted due to the administrative regulations.
  • ERTE of ultra-protected sectors, indicated in the list of CNAE codes and their value chain (Royal Decree-Law 2/2021, of January 26).

Throughout the pandemic they have gone improving and making more flexible the procedures both with the respective Autonomous Communities and with the SEPE in order to facilitate the procedures and procedures with the Administration.

Recovery of workers

With these data and with an economic activity carried out at half speed, it is very difficult for companies to assume the recovery of its entire workforce. 

As of today, the final date of the ERTE is May 31, so if there are no new developments on the matter, the workers They must return to their job, unless the company transitions to a new  ERTE ETOP (due to economic, technical, organizational or production reasons).

For all this, social agents and the Government are putting on the table what amounts to a extension of current measures.

It seems that the Government proposes incentives so that companies gradually reincorporate their workers as activity is reactivated.

Likewise, according to negotiation sources, it is proposed that the ERTE will be extend until after summer, so they will probably continue until September. The social security exemption system is also being negotiated, which will provide relief for companies.

We probably won't know until the end of this month how things will turn out. measures to take, and we hope that there is a good agreement to guarantee that companies and workers go gradually recovering its activity within the new normal.
