New contributions for the self-employed to Social Security

The Council of Ministers approved on September 28 , following a proposal from the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, the increase of 15 euros to 965 euros of the Minimum Interprofessional Wage (SMI).  The increase, which will be applied from September 1, 2021, complies with the commitments made and with the European Social Charter, signed by Spain. 

The new regulations that regulate The increase in the SMI also affects workers registered in the RETA who will see their self-employment quota increased.

Why is the self-employed fee increasing? And how much does the self-employed fee increase?

During the year 2021 due to Royal Decree Law 2/2021, the rate increase for the self-employed was provisionally suspended as of February 1, 2021,  conditional on the improvement of the situation and the increase in the SMI 2021. Given the increase in the SMI, the rates for the self-employed remain as follows:

  • The quote for common contingencies get on from 1.1% to 1.3% 
  • For him cessation of self-employment will go from 0.8% to 0.9%.   
  • This leads to The contribution of the self-employed increases by 0.3%, with the contribution rate being 30.6%, lThe previous one was in the 30,3%

This increase It will not mean the same amount for all self-employed people, well it will depend on the contribution base for each one.

In the case of a Self-employed with the minimum base (€944.40 per month), you will have an increase in your monthly payment of 3 euros since   will go from paying 286 to 289 euros to Social Security, This represents an increase of 36 euros per year.

Those self-employed who contribute for the maximum base They will have to face an increase of 12 euros, increasing their quota from 1,233 to 1,245 euros. This leads to an annual increase of €144.

What happens to those self-employed workers who are enjoying the flat rate?

In the case of self-employed workers who have a flat rate, the increase will not be applied while the bonus period lasts, since it is an amount set by the bonus.
