First of all, you must be clear about the synergy. This is a concept that goes beyond mathematics and even contradicts the mathematical logic in which 2 plus 2 would be 4 (however from a synergistic point of view, 2 plus 2 can be 8 or 10).

That is, the result is greater than the sum of the parts, it is exponential. This is what synergy consists of, you must ensure that your team cooperate in such a way that even if there are 5 or 6 people, their work is equivalent to that of 10 or 20. 

Additionally, you should know that no team is formed because you constitute it, indicate it in a memo or put it in a directive. The most you have created with this is a group, for it to become a team and a high-performance team there must be a lot of work on your part.

Therefore, it is very important that you realize that the equipment You begin to build it from the moment you define it in your organization; teams do not occur spontaneously, they require a lot of work, meetings, collaboration and, above all, knowledge of the capabilities and personalities of those who make them up. 


Thirdly, you should know that the teamwork is not an easier job; It is generally easier to work individually, without having to cooperate, collaborate, compromise or negotiate with other parties.

Roles that a team should have

Finally, we must emphasize the proper division of roles that a team should have. The roles, that is, the tasks assigned to each person, must have several elements for this division of labor to effectively produce synergistic results and, when fueled by cooperation, achieve the formation of a team that gives the expected results.

In this perspective, the division of roles should be: (i) consensual, that is, that the others accept the other's roles and that each member accepts the role that is assigned to them; (ii) complementaryThat is, the roles of each one must complement the capabilities of the other in order to cover different areas of knowledge or experience among team members and help produce better results; (iii) known by each team member (there cannot be secret roles, roles that are not very explicit or that are not well defined, since that takes away clarity from the division of roles) ; (iv) complete, that is, it must be specified where they begin and where they end, since responsibilities that are not well defined and those that remain in the middle of two people are usually one of the causes of team failures: “I didn't know what was my turn.” Do it to me” is one of the frequent phrases when an error is discovered that can cause the failure of a business team.
