In energy efficiency, Spain only stands out in construction

Germany and Italy are the most efficient countries, while the United States drops in a ranking that shows the large margin of potential savings.

Energy efficiency is the cheapest and most efficient way, pardon the redundancy, to cover the growing demand for energy in the world and fight against climate change, despite which it continues to be a resource enormously underused by Governments, which can do much to encourage this savings through energy policy. This is recalled by the authors of the fourth and latest report that scores 25 of the countries with the highest energy consumption in the world for their performance in this important area.

Germany and Italy are the countries that obtain the best score, with 75.7 points out of 100, followed by France (73.5), the United Kingdom (73) and Japan (67). Spain occupies number 6 place, with 65.5 points, advancing one place compared to last year's report. It is also worth highlighting that it occupies first place in terms of efforts to make buildings more efficient, an area that, although less known and popular than renewable energies, is equally or more important.
