How the European Ecodesign Regulation affects circulator pumps

The decree that affects the circulator pumps under the European Ecodesign Directive caused more than 90% of the wet rotor circulator pumps that were marketed for heating and air conditioning to stop being sold.
This regulation consists of three phases:

  • From January 1, 2013, wet rotor circulator pumps (except those specifically designed for primary circuits in solar thermal systems and heat pumps) must have a rating of Energy Efficiency (IEE) less than 0.27.
  • 2015: From August 1, 2015, both independent wet rotor circulators, as well as those that are integrated into other products, may not exceed a IEE of 0.23
  • 2020: Products that integrate circulators and that do not comply with the 2015 energy efficiency index may not be used for spare parts.
