The role of the Human Resources Area in the COVID-19 crisis

The covid-19 crisis

No one can escape the fact that COVID-19 is causing considerable damage to companies, their workers and human resources managers since the economic recession linked to the pandemic affects all areas equally.

This extraordinary impact has led to human resources, as a strategic area, being one of the most relevant today since it is responsible for providing immediate solutions and designing innovative management policies fundamentally focused on minimizing the consequences of the pandemic in the companies.

Human Resources Decision Making

From this perspective, it must be based on an exhaustive analysis of the context and the current situation since changes occur at an enormous speed. The deadlines established in traditional strategic plans have been destroyed and proactivity is essential when anticipating the dizzying nature of these changes.

Human Resources must reflect on what the new relationship between companies and their workers will be like, reinventing and designing new ways of working aimed at creating flexible and quickly adaptable high-performance teams. From this perspective, it is inevitable that human resources join the technological transformation process by developing and enhancing the technical skills (hard skills) and digital skills of their workers.

Business and talent

The connection between business and talent must be promoted in such a way that the links between both are reinforced regardless of the place in which one is working (office, factory, home, etc.). The worker's happiness and an improvement in their professional well-being will lead to greater productivity, more satisfaction and, of course, an increase in their feeling of belonging.

What should you do?

The Human Resources area must coordinate and lead this readjustment process, preventing COVID-19 and teleworking from completely eliminating human contact. The direct link unites the teams, helps to achieve the strategic objectives set and takes us back to previous stages where we would all like to endure even a tedious meeting today.
