The HR department that promotes the “compliance culture”

Have you heard about Compliance? Lately, it seems to be a term that is fashionable in the business field. Although it may not seem like it at first glance, there is a close relationship between compliance culture and human resources.

What is Compliance?

For those who have not heard it before, the compliance It is the set of strategies that a company can adopt to comply with mandatory regulations, in order to prevent the commission of infractions typical of its sector.

In Spain, this concept arose from the regulation of the criminal liability of legal entities in 2010. However, it gained relevance and began to materialize in 2015, when the Penal Code was reformed and the possibility of exempting or mitigating was regulated. the criminal liability of those companies that, before the commission of the crime, had adopted and effectively executed organizational and management models that included surveillance and control measures to prevent crimes or significantly reduce their commission. However, what does this have to do with Human Resources?

The essence of compliance It emerged much earlier, it is a term that comes from North America and the current regulation in our country is inspired by it. The reality is that their claims have little to do with criminal responsibility. This term champions a concept of compliance culture, or culture compliance of respect for the standards and ethical codes that are assumed by the organization, because “It is the right thing and what it should be.” The term encompasses a commitment by all employees of a company to comply with the company's standards and ethics.

Compliance Culture and Human Resources

Human Resources departments must promote company culture. They are responsible for how employees see the company and are responsible for improving its image from within.

For this, it is important that the culture compliance is blended with the business culture, and that its importance is conveyed to all employees through their own daily actions in carrying out their duties.
