We didn't learn to be leaders

If you decide to influence the behavior of another, you are involved in an act of leadership since, in essence, this is nothing more than getting others to do something (supposedly voluntarily) to achieve a common goal.

Within this idea of the influence of leadership on people's lives, one can understand that this competence can bring happiness to others, it can make someone advance and prosper, it can determine the leap and improvement of a team collaborator; However, negative leadership can also transform him into a frustrated person, fearful and even bitter in the place where you work, whether working or developing. 

Once we understand the importance of leadership in the life of any person, we can ask ourselves in what dimensions of life we can influence the behavior of others; the answer is the ones we spend the most time with: with our partners, our children and with our bosses or collaborators. Let's analyze this.

Leadership role

Our leadership role as parents It is a role that these days is limited to the few hours we spend with our children at home, where we sometimes arrive tired. They go to school, we go to work and we don't necessarily have the opportunity to interact, except on weekends and the hours we decide to dedicate to them. 

As for the leadership role with our couples The scheme is similar, we can share cohabitation with him or her, the bed for some moments, but then there are the domestic tasks, the same children (if there are any) and also obviously the work. 

Seen this way, the leader role as boss or colleague of a work team is the one we exercise the most in our day; We spend much more time with our bosses, in the offices (or now on Zoom) sharing with co-workers than in any other role in life (at least in the productive age).

In this sense, these 3 leadership roles reviewed (father, partner and boss or teammate) are fundamental tasks to achieve the happiness of people, children or partners; But among them, leadership is key and vital due to its extension and intensity. We can say that a boss can determine or not the happiness of the collaborator with whom he works because he spends more time with him than with his children or partner. 

We didn't learn to be leaders

For this reason it is very important to train, train and educate people on leadership issues. But if we stop to review the curriculum and our education plans at all levels we see that in no period are we taught to be parents, that we are not taught to be a couple and even less are we taught to be leaders and work as a team

This is why it is strategic to introduce the teamwork information and leadership at all educational levels and, as long as this does not happen, we must reinforce it within the organizations. People don't know how to be a boss and they didn't learn to be a leader anywhere. 

If you want to achieve happiness in your team -and be aware that happy people give extraordinary results-, dedicate yourself to reviewing your leadership, which consists of nothing more than seeking the common objectives of your people and ensuring that this search for happiness is achieved. can also give in the workplace.

Tell the truth about the results

Finally he goes out to a parade completely naked until a child shouts that the emperor has no clothes, to which he has no choice but to continue marching with a proud face.

Moral:

No one wants to tell the truth to someone in power or worse yet no one wants to tell them that they are being lied to.

This happens in many organizations with areas obliged to provide information on the results and describe the company's situation like an x-ray; They are afraid to say that the company is going through bad times or that the expected results are not being achieved. But the worst thing about this is that the more time spent facing crises and negative figures, the more damage is done to a company since any turnaround will always take time (and more time the larger the business). Of course, during this period, some won, like the swindlers in the story, who told the emperor that they had the ideal suit that was lighter than silk, so much so that it could not even be seen.

It is therefore vital that the areas that provide information for decision-making know how to be clear and sincere with their board of directors, council or management committee and in this way understand that their role is to tell the truth, no matter how hard it may be and no matter how much it affects people. others from the company.

Preparing from a master's degree or a postgraduate degree should mean acquiring the skills to have the correct photograph of the moment, but also having the integrity, ethics and ability to communicate results no matter how adverse these may be.

For this reason, it is very important to know how to communicate and present in an assertive manner the results and analyzes obtained from areas such as finance, accounting and commercial, since it is not about shouting out loud that everything is wrong, as the child of the story who in his innocence shouts in the middle of the emperor's parade: He is naked! -It must be remembered that the emperor raised his head and continued parading proudly, showing his nakedness to all the people.
