Were you unable to attend our webinar? Social networks and their management from the perspective of Compliance? Don't worry, in this post We summarize the keys to this webinar and the aspects we address.

Noelia Romero García, Compliance consultant, former head of Compliance and Ethics at FC Barcelona and member of the Board of Directors of the World Compliance Association, has accompanied us during this interesting event, which we highlight the following conclusions:

  • From a Compliance perspective, both corporate and supplier networks and the personal networks of employees must be considered.
  • In network management, the material scope covers all the organization's activity on the Internet and social networks, whether in corporate or private profiles, at any time and place, when said conduct has a direct or indirect relationship with the entity.
  • The general principles of action are: Right to freedom of expression and opinion, respect for the law, not speaking on behalf of the entity (except for communicative figures), not spreading rumors, alignment with the principles of the ethical code, among others. .

Between the guidelines and recommendationss of use of social networks, we can highlight:

  • Respect for personal opinion, even if it is contrary, as long as it does not damage the reputational image of the entity.
  • Think twice before publishing: pay attention to the potential harm to the third party.
  • Try to avoid “wars of opinion.”
  • Avoid publishing certain content: impossibility or difficulty in removing certain content.
  • Pay attention to false information chains and profiles, as well as fake news.
  • Use in moderation: alignment with the policy for the use of telematic media during the work day.
  • Avoid using open and/or public Wi-Fi networks with corporate media.
  • Report harassment situations.
  • In relation to communicative figures, it is essential to identify yourself as personnel of the entity and avoid taking a position on issues that create controversy.
  • For all these reasons, it is essential to develop an internal social media policy and adequately train the organization's staff to prevent risks.
