When I think of October, autumn, falling leaves, Halloween come to mind, but also information security, since October is European Cybersecurity Month (ECSM), where it is encouraged between citizens and organizations.
'Think Before U Click' (Think before you click), is the motto of this ninth edition where the focus will be on digital skills to promote cybersecurity and will be held from Thursday, October 1 to Saturday, October 31, 2020.
These days have been held since 2012, whose purpose is none other than to raise awareness among companies and individuals about online threats, promote cybersecurity and provide training tools and resources. Coordinated by the Commission and the EU Cybersecurity Agency (EINSA), in addition to having the support of European and international partners, this next edition will feature a large number of events and activities to promote online security.
This year's activities, from conferences, workshops, training courses, webinars to presentations and knowledge games, will be online due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
During the first two weeks, October 1 to 16, the Digital skills, providing all participants with information about online privacy, such as the protection of personal data, cyberbullying and good online practices. We mentioned a good example of all this in our previous post: “Safety also when returning to school”.
The next two weeks, October 17 to 31, will address the issue of cyber scams, such as phishing, compromised email and online shopping fraud, trying to help citizens and companies reduce risks.
Let us remember that due to the situation generated by COVID-19, online purchases have skyrocketed, what we are trying to achieve is to create awareness among participants about the security of their personal data and cyber scams.
