Countdown to efficient social housing

  • Public properties, including social housing, must meet energy requirements from 2019, one year before the rest
  • Some administrations, such as the Madrid City Council, are already promoting actions that save energy and use renewable sources

The revision of the Technical Building Code (CTE), which in addition to generalizing a new way of building in Spain, will incorporate, in the same line as other European countries, the definition of a building with almost zero energy consumption (EECN), with parameters much more demanding than the current ones, will soon be published.
Private developers know that, starting December 31, 2020, all new properties built will have to be subject to these guidelines. Demands that come from Europe and that also involve new buildings that are occupied and publicly owned, among them, social housing. These constructions must comply with these energy requirements as of December 31 of this year.
