Crisis management within a company

Surely more than once you have heard or read in the press some negative news about a company, which you later mentioned in conversation over coffee and it has been for a while trending topics networking. If you can't think of any, as an example I can think of a management that Volkswagen carried out in the face of the crisis that occurred when it became public that they tampered with emissions tests of their cars with diesel engines, or the disclosure of a video of two Domino's pizza workers playing with food. Surely many more have occurred to you now.

Preventive measures in the company

At EIP, we consider that among the measures to be taken by the company The following should be included:

  • Dispose of type performances planned.
  • Have a system of alerts.
  • Have a crisis committee with well-defined tasks previously and adequate training. Members of management, technical teams and the spokesperson must be represented on the committee.
  • Have a authorized spokesperson, with credibility and well trained, that allows information to be centralized abroad, so that there are no contradictions.
  • Have drafted and conveniently distributed a document with the steps, instructions and other information deemed necessary.
  • The fact of having communicated with target audiences of the organization and that the latter have a positive image of the company is key to having credibility at the time of the crisis and being able to overcome it.
  • Put date to the solution.

In these cases, and if ever as a worker in the HR department you have to participate in a crisis committee to create a contingency plan within the company, we at EIP want you not to lose focus on the following:

  • Highlight the importance of making the value that the company proposes for its employees shine in this plan: highlight the career plan, the training proposal, the conditions of the workers, and in general, all the positive aspects that make you continue in your job!
  • Another very important aspect, and almost essential, is promote the company's corporate social involvement. It is very important that all companies carry out activities aimed at improving society, from an environmental and human point of view. If this is not the case, after complicated situations it is a great time to analyze the company, self-evaluate it and take measures to improve it.
