The labor panorama that COVID-19 marks for us

The impact of COVID-19 on the population is enormous. Our society has not only received a health blow, but all sectors of society are affected by the arrival of the pandemic. The clearest example, ignoring the toilet, are workers who are in a vulnerable situation due to the national strike.

After 11 days of confinement in Spain, we find many people who have lost their jobs and thousands of self-employed workers who have been forced to close their companies. And without giving ourselves time to get used to better times, after emerging from a great crisis in which unemployment figures skyrocketed, we run a high risk of plunging into another deep employment crisis.

Measures to avoid disaster

These are times to invest in training and stand out as a professional. The postgraduate studies from EIP International Business School They offer you the possibility of doing it from a 100% format online.

We as students and professionals of Human Resources We must stay up to date with all the measures that affect professionals and that can change the employment landscape with which we work first-hand:

ERTEs

This is one of the main measures that the Government of Spain has taken to help companies in this health crisis. ERTEs are on everyone's lips and there are already a large number of companies that have taken advantage of this measure.

The ERTEs (Temporary Employment Regulatory Files) and, as their name suggests, they are temporary suspensions of employment. They are a measure aimed at those companies that, due to this specific situation, have been forced to close due to the type of activity (such as hospitality companies, for example) or whose activity has been affected, reducing their returns by a significant percentage. . When the alert situation ends, the company is obliged to reinstate employees with temporary suspension of employment, and keep them for a minimum of 6 months.

This measure allows workers to also receive an unemployment benefit, regardless of whether or not the employee has contributed long enough to receive an unemployment benefit.

Flexible working hours

Many companies today are more open with schedules but now during quarantine it is a right of workers to claim, in case of illness or having a dependent family member at home, the reorganization or reduction of hours (up to all of them) of your work day.

Social protection

Helping vulnerable citizens overcome this crisis is one of the Government's priorities. Thus, 600 million euros have been allocated in aid. In addition, energy supplies cannot be suspended and a payment moratorium has been granted for the sick and people who have reduced their income.

Protect the self-employed

The self-employed have full responsibility for their unemployment, except on this occasion. Self-employed workers who cannot work or see their income reduced by more than 75% will also have the right to unemployment benefits and, like all other workers during this crisis, unemployment time will not be discounted for the future.
