Pierre Moscovici is the face of the most political turn that the European Commission has given to its economic and fiscal policy. In his last interview before the Spanish press: he sees the evolution of the economy and training in Spain as follows:
The performance of the Spanish economy is good, and we should all be satisfied with it. But that does not mean that all the problems have been solved. The risk of poverty and social exclusion began to decline in 2015, but continues to register very high levels, especially among children.
Therefore, we recommend that Spain address the differences and fragmentation in income guarantee schemes, also at the regional level. We also observe that school failure is falling, but remains the second highest in the EU (19%). Therefore, priority actions should be adopted to improve teacher preparation and individual support for students.
The market unity law, one of the milestones of Spain's reform agenda, must also be properly applied at all levels, from local to central. In summary, there are still reforms that must be adopted not only to have higher but also higher quality growth, and to have not only jobs but quality jobs, and thus reduce inequality. This is the spirit of the Commission not only for Spain but for the entire eurozone.
