The consumer price index (CPI) stood at 1.9% in the month of May,\u00a0seven tenths below the month<\/strong> former<\/strong>, due to the\u00a0cheapening<\/strong>\u00a0experienced by\u00a0fuels<\/strong>\u00a0-more than one 4% in May- and the\u00a0tourist packages<\/strong>\u00a0which contrast with the increase in prices last year.<\/p>\n

If the advance data published this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) is confirmed on June 13, the CPI would be below the\u00a02%<\/strong>\u00a0for the first time this year.<\/p>\n

With this data, consumer prices have been positive for nine months, although their rise\u00a0has been moderated\u00a0<\/strong>with respect to that recorded in the\u00a0first two months of the year<\/strong>\u00a0when they were located at 3%.<\/p>\n

January recorded annual inflation that skyrocketed to 3% due to the increase in energy prices, a rate that was maintained in February despite the decrease in electricity prices because fresh fruits and vegetables rose.<\/p>\n

In March there was a moderation to 2.3% as electricity and fuel prices were contained, which rebounded in April to 2.6% driven by tourist prices as a result of Easter.<\/p>\n

Prices drop 0.1% compared to April<\/span><\/h3>\n

In monthly comparison, prices have fallen by 0.1% in May compared to April, which represents the\u00a0first drop in the month of May in the last five years<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The leading indicator of the harmonized consumer price index\u00a0(HICP)<\/strong>\u00a0-which measures the evolution of prices with the same method in all the countries of the euro zone-\u00a0It rose to 2% in May, six tenths less than in April.\u00a0<\/strong>The monthly variation of the IPCA was 0%.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
