This concept is comparable to the skin that covers the human body and protects it from external conditions. The envelope of a building is made up of all the enclosures that delimit the spaces, habitable and non-habitable, with the outside air, the land or another building. Also included are all the interior partitions that delimit these same spaces in contact with the outside environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In summary, we could say that the thermal envelope is the epidermis of our building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The difficulties and changes in materials involved in certain types of construction details significantly affect the thermal envelope of the building. These heat losses have a direct impact on the <strong>electricity costs<\/strong>, furthermore, of n<strong>o guarantee comfort conditions in the rooms<\/strong>, leading to <strong>oversizing of thermal production equipment <\/strong>and\/or obtaining energy efficiency labels from <strong>bad note<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"480\" height=\"314\" src=\"https:\/\/eiposgrados.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/captura-de-pantalla-2022-03-23-a-las-114602.png\" alt=\"Screenshot 2022 03 23 At 11.46.02\" class=\"wp-image-59609\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eiposgrados.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/captura-de-pantalla-2022-03-23-a-las-114602.png 480w, https:\/\/eiposgrados.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/captura-de-pantalla-2022-03-23-a-las-114602-300x196.png 300w, https:\/\/eiposgrados.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/captura-de-pantalla-2022-03-23-a-las-114602-252x165.png 252w, https:\/\/eiposgrados.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/captura-de-pantalla-2022-03-23-a-las-114602-123x80.png 123w, https:\/\/eiposgrados.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/captura-de-pantalla-2022-03-23-a-las-114602-200x131.png 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><figcaption><em>Heat flows due to thermal bridges in a typical home<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-85436efd gb-headline-text\"><strong>How do the different standards define the concept of thermal bridge?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Technical Code<\/strong> of the Building in its Basic Document HE, Section HE1 defines thermal bridge: \u00b4\u00b4\u2026<strong><em>Zone of the thermal envelope of the building in which a variation in the uniformity of the construction is evident<\/em><\/strong><em>, either due to a change in the thickness of the enclosure or the materials used, due to the complete or partial penetration of construction elements with different conductivity, due to the difference between the external and internal area of the element, etc., which entail a reduction in the thermal resistance compared to the rest of the enclosure<\/em>\u2026\u00b4\u00b4<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For its part, <strong>the UNE-EN ISO 10211 standard <\/strong>define<em> thermal bridge like <\/em><strong><em>that part of a building envelope where the normally uniform thermal resistance changes significantly.&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the problem of energy demand, thermal bridges are <strong>sensitive areas<\/strong> that <strong>can allow mold to form due to surface condensation<\/strong> due to the decrease in temperatures of interior surfaces in winter conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"gb-headline gb-headline-676102c1 gb-headline-text\"><strong>Classification of the different types of thermal bridges in buildings<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We can know a <strong>typological classification<\/strong> of this type of low thermal resistance zones through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.codigotecnico.org\/pdf\/Documentos\/HE\/DA-DB-HE-3_Puentes_termicos.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><em>Basic Document on Energy Savings of the Technical Building Code<\/em><\/strong> <strong><em>H.E.<\/em><\/strong><\/a> which establishes the following thermal bridges:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>a) Thermal bridges integrated into the enclosures:<\/strong><ul><li>&nbsp;i) pillars integrated into the fa\u00e7ade enclosures;&nbsp;<\/li><li>ii) outline of openings and skylights;&nbsp;<\/li><li>iii) blind boxes;&nbsp;<\/li><li>iv) other integrated thermal bridges;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>b) Thermal bridges formed by the meeting of enclosures:&nbsp;<\/strong><ul><li>i) forged fronts on the facades;&nbsp;<\/li><li>ii) joints of roofs with facades;<\/li><li>iii) covered with a parapet;<\/li><li>iv) covers without parapet;&nbsp;<\/li><li>v) joints of facades with enclosures in contact with the ground;&nbsp;<\/li><li>vi) connection of fa\u00e7ade with slab or slab;&nbsp;<\/li><li>vii) connection of fa\u00e7ade with buried wall or screen;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>c) Corners or meetings of facades, which, depending on the position of the exterior environment, are subdivided into:&nbsp;<\/strong><ul><li>i) incoming corners;&nbsp;<\/li><li>ii) protruding corners;&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>d) Meetings of cantilevers with facades;&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>e) Meetings of interior partitions with exterior enclosures.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In this post we talk about thermal bridges as areas of low thermal resistance of the building envelope and how it affects its energy efficiency.
